The AlphaStep is a revolutionary 2-phase, hybrid, geared step motor and driver package which eliminates missed steps, a common problem with stepping motors. The AlphaStep uses a built-in feedback device that constantly monitors the motor shaft to detect and correct for loss of synchronism.

Features of the Alphastep Product Line:

  • High Response - Like conventional stepping motors, Alphastep operates in synchronism with command pulses.  This makes possible positioning with short strokes in a short time.
  • No Hunting - Since the Alphastep is a stepping motor, it has no hunting problem such as may be found in a traditional servo motor. Therefore, when it stops, its position is completely stable and does not fluctuate.  Alphastep is ideal for applications in which vibration form stopping would be a problem.
  • No Gain Tuning - Gain tuning for servo motors is critical, troubleshooting and time consuming.  Since the Alphastep operates like a stepping motor, there are no gain tuning requirements.  Low rigidity applications, such as a belt and pulley are the most suitable for the Alphastep.
  • Low Vibration at Low Speeds - The driver employs advanced technology that produces smoothness comparable to a micro-stepping driver.  Its vibration level is incredibly low, even when operating in the low speed range.  Alphastep provides resolution as low as 0.036° per step without any damping mechanism or other mechanical device.  Even smoother operation is possible with the geared type.    More product information...

DG Series Hollow Rotary Actuators
The new hollow rotary actuators from Oriental Motor combine the precision of the AlphaStep stepping motor and driver with a large-diameter, hollow output table and gearhead.  The output table of the DG series allows direct installation of your load.  For applications performing indexing using belts, pulleys or other mechanical parts, the DG series reduces the number of parts and simplicity in design.

Simplicity in Design!

The drive motor of the DG series is an AlphaStep stepping motor with built-in rotor-position detection sensor.  This combination results in a shorter positioning time.  In addition, the actuator uses a dedicated driver to monitor the motor speed and position information, and switches to closed-mode control the moment it detects the risk of a misstep.  Therefore, acceleration and deceleration times can be shortened for quicker positioning.
The gear-reduction mechanism of the DG series uses precision gears along with a proprietary adjustment mechanism that eliminates backlash.  The repetitive accuracy of positioning from a single direction is ± 15 sec., while lost motion in a positioning operation from two directions is 2min.  These characteristics make the DG series ideal for applications requiring accurate positioning.  More product information...
